Independence Day in the United States is one of the most popular holidays of the year! Honoring the Declaration of Independence being signed in 1776 continues to be an exciting federal holiday. In Tallahassee, it’s no different. With this year’s 4th of July falling steadily approaching, Florida’s capital city is gearing up for a day full of events and patriotic activities for the whole family.
Did you know? 2024 marks Tallahassee’s 200th anniversary! Getting to celebrate the 4th of July during the city’s Bicentennial celebration is extremely special. Whether you’re a resident or a visitor looking to join in on the community fun, this year’s Independence Day festivities offer a wide array of activities, from dazzling fireworks and live music to patriotic sports events.
Follow along as we explore the top events and attractions happening on July 4th to have the most star-spangled holiday. So, gear up in your red, white, and blue – this Tally Student Survival list is for you!
Celebrate America – The City of Tallahassee is hosting a free Fourth of July event! Located at Tom Brown Park, experience an evening filled with live music, activities for kids, and a fireworks display. Food trucks will be present, but attendees can bring their own picnic. As there will be limited parking, StarMetro is providing FREE shuttle services for the entire event. Don’t miss exciting performances by the Leon High School Choral Department, Kenny Hill Band, and Revival! And stick around for the dazzling firework display starting at 9:50pm.
Fourth of July Extravaganza – Leon High School is hosting a holiday celebration filled with patriotism! Witness the school’s cast of “The Music Man” as they transport back in time to 1912 for a historic Independence Day. The school will also be holding a BBQ with food options to purchase. Picnic with friends and take part in kid-friendly games like Jenga, corn hole, and a cake walk. The best part? It’s completely FREE!
Red, White, & Blue Golf Tournament – The Golf Club at Summerbrooke is hosting their annual Fourth of July golf tournament and you’re invited! Whether you’re already a club member or just looking to join in on a day of patriotic club-swinging fun, this is the perfect event to celebrate Independence Day outdoors. Show up in your most patriotic attire for a best-dressed contest, and if you’re up for it—kick off the fun with a 3pm shotgun! Entry is $40 for club members and $60 for the public. Make sure to register beforehand as a team by emailing the event coordinator here.
Firecracker 5K & 1 Mile Sparkler Run – The annual Fourth of July race at Cascades Park is back! Support the Capital City Kiwanis Club and get your heart rate up in this patriotic athletic event! The day begins with on-site registration at 6:30am. The 1-mile Fun Run starts at 7:30am, with the 5K race starting at 8:00am. Make sure to stick around for the awards ceremony at 9:00am! Registration is available online already, with prices for kid runners starting at $13 and adults starting at $25.
InDEEPendence Day 2024 @ DEEP – One of Tally’s favorite beer spots is hosting its annual Independence Day event. This year, Deep Brewing Co. wants to celebrate with you by eating classic American food while drinking a mixture of red, white, and blue! They’ll have Tiki Dawgs serving up their famous Chicago dogs and burgers, and a colorful list of special beers just for Independence Day! This is a fantastic way to spend your 4th of July before heading out to the fireworks!
Rendition of Florida’s 1824 Captiol – The LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library is holding a month-long exhibition from the Museum of Florida History. In honor of this year being Tallahassee’s Bicentennial celebration, the Museum created a miniature representation of the first capitol building in Florida. You can embrace the nation and Florida’s history by checking out the exhibition while it’s displayed on the Main Library’s first floor throughout July.
